DHI Hair Transplantation

Direct Hair Implantation or DHI in short, is a relatively new procedure. Similar to FUE, it leaves no visible scars, while providing naturally looking results. Although the graft extraction process is similar to FUE, there are certain differences between the two methods.

Initially, hair follicles are extracted one by one with help of a specific tool having a diameter of 1mm. The hair follicles are thereafter loaded into a specially designed implanter tool (Choi Implanter Pen) and directly implanted into the recipient area. During DHI, the preparation of the canals and the implantation happen at the same instant.

With a similar recovery time as in FUE procedure, the full results of DHI are visible 12 to 18 months after the procedure. In terms of the success rates, there is virtually no difference, both for FUE and DHI’s the success rates are usually around 95%.

Frequently Asked Questions

The procedure is practically painless and causes less irritation than a tattoo. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia so that the patient can relax, listen to music, watch TV, enjoy a light lunch and even nap during the procedure.

There will be absolutely no scar or mark after the DHI technique, only a slight reddening in the donor area, which will be completely relieved over the course of a week. After finishing the procedure, the donor area or the area where the hair is removed will be bandaged to prevent any infection. This can be removed the next day.
